COVID-19 has had significant impacts on all NSW residents. However, many older people, people with disability and carers have experienced additional impacts as a result of their increased susceptibility and exposure to the virus, and reliance on services and support networks that were disrupted by protective measures. Service providers and community organisations that older people, people with disability and carers rely on were also severely impacted.
On behalf of the NSW Ageing and Disability Advisory Board (Board), you are invited to a sector forum discussing what we can learn from this experience, and what we should do differently to inform future pandemics or disasters.
This forum is a targeted to advocates, service providers, policy makers and workers within the ageing, disability and carer sectors and will explore two topics:
Topic 1: Improving community engagement and information
Topic 2: Strengthening services, systems and responses
The Board will also be releasing a seminal report that reviews key published evidence regarding the impacts of the responses to the COVID-19 pandemic on older people, people with disability and carers in NSW. Lessons and learnings are highlighted in this report to help shape future responses. Copies will be available at the event, and online.
This sector forum will be held in the Gallery Room at the NSW State Library, located on the ground floor of the Mitchell Building.
The NSW State Library is an accessible building with wheelchair access, ramp, tactile tiles and an automatic door at the entrance. If you require additional accessibility support, please include that information when you are securing your ticket.

Informed by lessons of the past, the Ageing and Disability Commission is improving how we work with Aboriginal people and communities. We listen and learn from the knowledge, strength and resilience of Stolen Generations Survivors, Aboriginal Elders and Aboriginal communities.
